Gynecology
The Knoxville Center for Reproductive Health provides a variety
of routine gynecological care and family planning services. General
gynecological care includes consultation and examination, PAP testing,
breast exams, PMS and menopausal services, abortion follow-up exams,
and testing and treatment for urinary tract infections, vaginal
infections, and sexually transmitted infections, including HPV testing.
HIV screening is also available.
Gynecological care is offered in the interest of prevention. With
its emphasis on counseling and education, the Center is a resource
for teens and women of all ages. Appointments are easily arranged
on a same-day or next-day basis, assuring immediate medical attention
for routine matters.
Birth Control
The Center provides a range of birth control options to enhance
choices that are compatible with one's needs and lifestyle, including
the latest in contraceptive technology as it becomes available.
Oral contraceptives, injectables, implants, vaginal rings, patches,
IUDs, diaphragms, and cervical caps are among the methods offered.
Pregnancy Tests
Free pregnancy testing is available every weekday 9:00am - 4:00pm
on a walk-in basis. The Center's free urine test detects pregnancy
in women who have missed a menstrual period by at least one day.
Blood pregnancy tests are also available for patients who have missed
a period by at least one day for a minimal charge. Pregnancy test
results are available on the day of the test, and appropriate resource
information is available upon request.
Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception (also known as the "morning after pill")
is provided at the Center, and is available to women who have had
unprotected sex within the last 120 hours (5 days). This medication
is most effective when taken within 72 hours (3 days), reducing
the risk of pregnancy by up to 89%. Please call the office to arrange
an appointment, and we will make every effort to accommodate you
quickly.
Emergency contraception has become available at some local pharmacies
without a prescription if you are 18 years or older; you have to
ask the pharmacist for it as they keep it behind the counter. So
if you are unable to visit us during our office hours, emergency
contraceptive pills are available to you. If you are under 18 years
old, you are not able to purchase emergency contraceptive pills
at the pharmacy but can be seen and receive them at our facility
without a problem.
Insurance
We are a participating provider with most BC/BS
of Tennessee plans, First Health/Coventry Health Care and United
Healthcare (shared savings program only). These claims will be filed
for you. Depending on your insurance coverage, we may request full
or partial payment as determined by deductible and patient benefit
policies. Patients with other insurance coverage are required to
pay in full at time of service. An itemized statement can be provided
for those patients to submit for reimbursement. Since your insurance
policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, our
office cannot accept responsibility for collecting your insurance
claim or for negotiating a settlement of a disputed claim. If you
have any questions, we will be glad to assist you.
